The secret to rooms
with drop-dead style?
Orange, says L A
designer Jackie Terrell.
"Orange is a hip color,”
she says, "and almost
everything looks good
with it.” Here are her
secrets for getting
from the paint chip
to the wall.
T O N E IT BRO W N
Much of orange's
shock value goes away
when you pick a shade
with some brown-ness.
"I tend to choose bold
colors, but I almost
always like them with
a little 'mud' in them,”
Terrell says.
PICK A ROOM Use
orange in a contained
room (such as an
office or bedroom)
so the strong color
doesn't overwhelm
adjoining spaces.
ST R ET C H IT "I do
the baseboards in the
wall color—it's very
elongating,” says
Terrell. The same goes
for crown molding.
And she suggests
keeping a white ceiling.
B ES T O P TIO N S Hot
pink, pale pink, olive
green, and robin's egg
blue all make Terrell’s
list of good color
pairings. But never
black: "The Halloween
thing is such a curse.”
